The unit was designated the 926th TCG in January 1963 with the C-119 at NAS New Orleans under the control of the 446th TCW. The unit redesignated as the 924th TAG in July 1967 and converted to the C-130A in December 1969. The group transferred to the 442nd TAW in July 1972 and converted to the C-130B in November 1973. The unit converted to the A-37B in April 1978, becoming the 926th TFG with assignment to the 434th TFW. The unit re-equipped with the A-10A in January 1982 and the F-16C/D in mid-1992.
